Unit 7

Now that i have completed my tasks for my time project, i can now fully reflect on and evaluate the work and progress in which I obtained. Have you reflected on your progress? - After every task in which i had to complete for the project, especially when it comes to my experimental sequences, i have reflected back on them, where i have questioned on how it was successful, what was least successful & how i can improve for next time if i was chose to that particular experimental sequence. I can say from my analysis and reflection on them, i can say that there was more success then less-successful elements, but despite that i know where i can improve on them. As I did not previously mention in my previous research blog, albeit i have researched the photographers that I previously mentioned in the last post, but i forgot to discuss/mention the fact that they will, or should i say by now,have inspired my work in some form. Looking back on the projects in which i have been tasked with and completed over the last few months, i can see that parts of their work have inspired part of my work; for example with my high speed images which we all completed as a group a few weeks ago, that Harold Edgerton, the originator of high speed images, his work has inspired mine as i can see a comparison from his work in mine/ours, meaning the inspiration, referring to using the same techniques in which he used to create his images. Another example of this is when i was processing my stop motion project, i gained my inspiration for my stop motion from watching Koyaanisqatsi. As you may have seen from my last blog on this subject i told you that i was in the process of doing an experimental pinhole camera, which was where i had to capture the sun rising over the space of three months, as well as me explaining how i made the camera also. Well, as you can see by the image above, this is my result of my experimental lumin pinhole camera, over the course of 3 months from January to March 23rd. This is also the result of an inversion of the photo using photoshop. To get this image however, i first had to extract my photographic paper from the can in which i used to hold the paper, as well as dry it off as it was wet from the weather over the past couple of months. I then placed it underneath a fixed lens camera, which was suspended above my photographic paper as well as being set on a two second timer on its self timer setting. https://youtu.be/eQhFjM_zClk This is my short experimental narrative sequence. as i previously mentioned in the last post based on my narrative sequence, where i explained what i was doing for my narrative experimental sequence, my example of what i am doing/creating etc. Process - For my narrative sequence, i printed off silhouettes of a skateboarder, where they came from all different angles, doing different tricks, positions etc, then i proceeded to cut them out, well at least the ones i used. I used about 6 or 7 different silhouettes. Then i proceeded to take photos, for this i shot them in RAW, where the flash went off automatically; it did this because of the fact that i was taking the photos from above, instead of having to hold up the silhouettes and then later on having to edit my hand out of the frames. In total i took 63 photos in total and it took me an hour and half to do; it took me that long to do as i had to keep deleting and re-shooting some of the ...

Stop motion is an animation technique that physically manipulates an object so that it appears to move on its own. The object is moved in small increments between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a fast sequence. Stop motion is often confused with the time lapse technique, where still photographs of  alive surrounding are taken at regular intervals and combined into a continuous film; but also be considered the same in some faction. For this task, we all tried our hand at recreating and creating our own version of Howard Edgerton own famous high speed images. For this we had to create our version of one of the set-up's that Edgerton possibly used, it had to be precise and we had to use certain equipment for us to be able to make this a success: . A DSLR (of course) . A tripod . A wireless external flash (at least one) . A black backdrop (for example this could be a sheet, a piece of cardboard, or anything else that you possibly know of, as long as it does not reflect light) . A subject - this could be dropping a piece of fruit into some water, or a balloon full of paint . during this lesson, i felt that I've done quite well as i have managed to complete and upload three blogs for this unit - that being my attempt at After effects, finally finished off my blog on the pinhole experiment which i will do an updated blog once it is time to hand in the experiment on the 23rd of this month, I've also uploaded my time lapse etc. research. i have also started my blog on stop motion/narrative sequence, ready for when I've finished my narrative sequence, which all be it i have still not completed, as i was meant to start it last week but unfortunatly i was unable to obtain a camera and tripod, but i'm making my main task to complete it this week.

The process of this task takes 2 parts to fully create; using photoshop for editing the image so you can then process it into a GIF using after affects, then of course using Adobe After Affects to create the GIF. To create the GIF i used an image of the Shard with a plane in the background; the idea being to make the photo fly past, behind the building. You can see the starter image below, so you can see what it looks like before i commenced the process. For the process of making this short GIF, i uploaded the image you see above into adobe photoshop. i then unlocked the layer and then duplicated it. For this lesson/task we were requested to experiment & create a pinhole photo spread over 2 to 3 months of the sun rising, where by the end of the experiment there should be a sort of streak going across the photographic paper in which we use, but it is ok if we do not get a streak of some sorts, as all in all it is just an experimentation. For this process, we could not use a simple shoe box pinhole camera like we would usually do, as that would be very difficult to use as it would probably blow over,and would not stay in the same position etc. so we had to create our own minnature pinhole camera by using a can or drink can etc. where by the end we can use cable ties to tie it to a draining pipe on our houses or anywhere where we know the sun rises so we can try and make the experimentation successful.
